Hi System is an innovative technological platform that allows to automatically integrate each single components of a complete system of home and building automation (referred as domotic system), thus dramatically simplifying the designing and implementation processes and increase synergy and functionality between different technological sub systems.

In particular, thanks to an innovative process based on algorithmic, layered abstraction protocols and architectural approach, the Hi System platform enable the domotic designer to use heterogeneous technological apparatuses as an homogeneous technological entity without interoperability constraint of different vendors. As a matter of fact, thanks to the Hi System platform, the domotic designer will be allowed to focus his attention only on the conceptual and applicative aspects of the design of the domotic system (i.e. the on the choice of the classes of the devices to be used, as well as of their arrangement in the space), leaving to the platform the task of dealing with the purely technological aspects of the design (i.e. the choice of the most appropriate devices within the classes identified by the designer and their integration.

Thanks to the Hi System platform, the process of design and implementation of a domotic system is significantly simplified, allowing non-specialised people to implement advanced domotic systems.

This will certainly bring to a wider spread of the domotic technologies and to a reduction of their costs. Besides, the Hi System platform also increase the quality of the design of domotic systems, as it will propose project lines based on a qualitative and quantitative analysis of the real needs of the different end-users. Finally, as user interfaces are the only way, for the end user, to keep real advantages from the domotic system, the Hi System platform will also have integrated Human Machine Interface (Hi.Vision) lines for increase the usability and the overall quality of the domotic system as perceived by the end-users.

The Hi System platform is able to perform an abstraction of the different technologies through the fusion of 3 interconnected sub-platforms briefly described in the following.

1. A SW tools platform (sub-platform A) designed and implemented for designing and supporting the configuration of heterogeneous, integrated domotic systems.

It include:

 • a tool for the guided physical design of the home automation system;

• a tool for the guided logical design and configuration of the home automation system;

• a tool for the guided design of HCIs specific for allowing targeted classes of end-users (e.g. old people, disabled persons, children, …) to manage automation systems.


2. A HW/FW/SW platform (sub-platform B) intended to ensure the run-time physical and logical interoperability (i.e. intended to execute all the heterogeneous logics configured using the sub-platform A and to convey towards the interfaces all the pieces of information needed for the interaction). 

Sub-platform B will include:

• a HW integrator (called Home Gateway Control "Hi Control") for the interconnection of different heterogeneous automation technologies (like ModBus, LonTak ecc.);

• software drivers for the collection of the information concerning the status of the different heterogeneous sub-systems;

• a homogeneous Data Base (DBManager) for abstracting, making uniform, managing and coordinating all the data concerning the status of the different heterogeneous sub-systems;

• a logical event-driven engine for the execution of heterogeneous actions;
scheduler and time lines executer;

• an engine for the energetic optimisation of the domotic system (mainly consisting of algorithmic solutions aimed at the consumption rationalisation as well as at the resources optimisation) that will provide the domotic system designer with a set of tools useful for the integration and the functional co-operation of the currently existing technologies for controlling, managing and storing energy.

3. A HW/SW platform (sub-platform C) including HCI devices and technologies. In particular, sub-platform C have the following specifications.

4. Innovative, ubiquitous and non-intrusive HW devices that allows the interaction between man, space, objects and all domotic functionalities;

• an effective interconnection technology for mobile (or nomadic) interface devices;

• ergonomic design of HW HCI devices with reference to the specific targets of disabled people and to the specific use for which they are intended;

• vocal synthesis and recognition algorithms embedded in the HW HCI devices and use of dedicated technologies for digital signal processing;

• synergic integration (also through symbolic and iconographic communication) between elements of physical interface and graphic and multimedia interfaces;

• design and development of a SW for the operative execution of the interfaces generated and configured through sub-platform A;

• analysis, design and integration of 3D vision and recognition technologies as innovative interaction tool between man and home.
